Who publishes this site
Independent of government, councils and schools.
The School Record is independent. It is not part of the Department for Education, Ofsted or any council, and no school, council or business pays to change what it says.
Why this site exists
Nearly every figure here was already public. The problem was where it sat. How many families named a school, how far the last place reached, where a council draws its area map: a little of that is in one national file, and the rest is spread across more than 150 councils, often inside a long PDF written for somebody else.
A parent with one simple question about one school had to find and read all of it first. This site puts it in one place, one page per school, with the source named next to every number.
How to check what we say
You should not have to take any website's word for a figure, including ours. Every figure here names its source and the date of our copy, so you can open the original and check it. Where a figure is uncertain, the page says so. Where a council has not confirmed a figure, the page says that too. If we get something wrong, tell us and we will correct it in the open.
What this site will never do
- Give a school a score, a grade, or a place in a league table.
- Tell you whether you will get a place. We hold no evidence about that, and we only ever say what already happened.
- Say anything about what a house is worth.
- Say you live outside a school's area when we hold no map for that school. No map means we cannot tell you either way, and we will say so.
Using this information
This is information only, not advice. It may have mistakes in it, or be out of date. Check with the school and the council before you decide anything.
We collect every figure from an official publication and check it before it goes on the site. Mistakes can still get through. A publication can be wrong, schools change, and we can join the wrong records together. School websites, phone numbers and other details come from the government's list of schools, which each school keeps up to date itself.
What happened in past years is not a guide to what will happen this year, and nothing here says whether a child will get a place. Do your own research. The school, the council and the admission authority hold the rules and the up-to-date position, and their word is the final one. We are not responsible for decisions made using this site.
How it is funded
The School Record carries no advertising. No school, council, estate agent or tutoring business pays to appear on it or to influence what it says. If the way the site is funded changes, this page will say so.
